No, it doesn’t stink. It just has a slightly meaty smell when you crush the leaves. It’s a lovely plant for a shady spot. In early summer the flower is a pale lilac iris, but it is spectacular in autumn with bright orange berries which last through the winter. Mix it with stinking hellebore, woodruff and bellflowers for a shady woodland border.
