Southern marsh orchid

Dactylorhiza praetermissa
Height : 20 - 50cm
Flowering period : May - July

Price for : 9cm = £12.50 : Sold Out

This is a beautiful deep purple orchid which can grow to 20 – 50cm  Its natural range in the UK is all counties south of and including Yorkshire.
It will readily form a clump and will spread and grow from seed only if the species-specific soil fungi are present. For the Southern marsh orchid we believe that these are often present in the soil. Any self-seeded plants will take 4-5 years to grow from seed to flowering.
It prefers a moist soil which can be calcareous, neutral or acidic but does not like to be waterlogged for long. It does very well in a fairly large pot standing in a saucer of water.
