Sanicle is one of the indicator plants of ancient deciduous woodland. It is a bit of a curiosity with small white balls of flowers which have a pinkish tinge borne on fine branching stems. Being evergreen, it complements Spring woodland bulbs very well, and is ideal in shade.
Other features:
Sanicle may also be called Wood elder. The fruits formed from the seeds have small hooked bristles. Consequently they attach to the fur of animals for dispersal.
Wildlife attracted:
As a relatively low growing plant with dense leaves, it is ideal to be part of a woodland habitat, providing shelter for wildlife.
