Description
Red campion is a very versatile plant and will grow in sun, part shade or shade. It often adorns hedgerows, roadside verges and the edge of woodlands but it is also well placed in a garden setting. It is a robust addition and will grow well in a border, shady corner or within grassland. This wildflower has very long flowering period and the flower colour ranges from pale pink to bright cerise. It self seeds easily and will form a beautiful clump of long lasting flowers.
Wildlife attracted:
The flowers of red campion are important for various pollinating insects including bees, butterflies and hoverflies. The leaves provide food for the larvae of moths
Other features:
The flowers are associated with the feast day of Saint James. If grown near White campion, the two flowers may hybridise to produce pink blooms.
