Description
Dog rose is a perennial shrub which will climb and scramble through a native hedge, tree or trellis. There are simple pale pink flowers adorning the rambler in mid summer. Bright red berries follow in the Autumn, to add extra interest. It is great when planted as part of a native hedge as it will provide much interest through the year, but is also lovely in a woodland setting. A robust yet interesting plant native that will grow just about anywhere.
Wildlife attracted:
The flowers of the Dog rose attract pollinators collecting pollen. Later in the year, birds such as blackbirds, redwings and waxwing love the red berries.
Other features:
Rose hips contain a high amount of Vitamin C and traditionally made into Rose hip syrup
