Dog rose is a perennial shrub which will climb and scramble through a native hedge, tree or trellis. There are simple pale pink flowers adorning the rambler in mid summer. Bright red berries follow in the Autumn, to add extra interest. It is great when planted as part of a native hedge as it will provide much interest through the year, but is also lovely in a woodland setting. A robust yet interesting plant native that will grow just about anywhere.
The flowers of the Dog rose are an important source of nectar, and later in the year, birds such as blackbirds, redwings and waxwing love the red berries.
Rose hips contain a high amount of Vitamin C and traditionally made into Rose hip syrup
