The pretty pale yellow flowers of Evening Primrose are biennial and the flowers appear on tall stems in the second year. It will tolerate very dry conditions and loves full sun. Our plants are in their first year of growth so we expect them to flower in 2024. From mid summer to September, the flowers open in the evening and remain open until mid morning the following day, attracting bees and evening moths too.
The fragrant flowers attract bees, butterflies and evening moths, which in turn provide food for evening bats!
It self seeds prolifically and the seeds have a medicinal application for making Evening primrose oil.
The plants may also be included in our Bees & Butterflies plant collections
