Hart’s tongue fern is a native, evergreen fern found in damp, shady woodlands. It is also found alongside streams or in rocks. The thick fronds are glossy, long and tapering. In the garden, this fern grows well in shaded areas, beneath shrubs and with other moisture loving plants. It grows slowly , so will not be invasive in the garden.
The evergreen leaves provide shelter for wildlife all year round, but especially in the winter months.
It is an indicator of ancient woodlands when found in abundance.
