Dyers greenweed has loved the sunshine this week😎
As a native shrub of grassland and open woodlands (Genista tinctoria) it enjoys the sun and will grow quite happily in dry, poor soil.
The bright yellow flowers attract a range of insects and it is also a key larval food plant for some 20 species of moths. However Dyers greenweed in nature has declined over time causing a threat to the survival of some moth species. It is only grassland management that is reversing this decline and related moth populations.
In a garden setting Dyers greenweed has become more popular in recent years with the return of traditional crafts- as its name suggests it is used as a natural yellow dye. Added to a garden planting scheme in a dry sunny spot it can only help to attract more insects and add to the local biodiversity.

Pretty in pink ….. the native Maiden pink. 🌸 Pretty in pink ….. the native Maiden pink. 🌸
This dainty wildflower carries its bright pink flowers on stems 15-20cm long above a rosette of slender leaves.
It is happiest in the sun so is loving the heat just now!
Just one of our wildflowers looking great on our wildflower stand at the nursery this weekend. And of course available online too.

Our Native Jacobs ladder is just coming into flowe Our Native Jacobs ladder is just coming into flower. 😊
The lovely violet blue flowers appear in a pretty cluster at the top of the tall stems and more flowers will continue to open over the next few weeks.
This wildflower looks equally at home in a border with other wildflowers or herbaceous plants or as a centre piece in a container. Although it enjoys full sun it prefers a partly shaded spot where it will thrive, producing flowers through June-July 🌱😊 #jacobsladder #polemoniumcaeruleum #summerwildflowers #purplewildflowers #wildflower #summergarden
